6 First Date Ideas in the Quad Cities
First dates are always nerve-wracking, whether you know the person already or it's a set-up. There's nothing worse than awkward silence when you're trying to make a love connection. Doing an activity together can help ease a little bit of the awkwardness, so we've comprised a list of our favorite spots for first dates in the QC. Now, we're not guaranteeing there won't be any mishaps, but hopefully, things will go much smoother if you go with one of these ideas.
Also, some of these are weather permitting, so we highly suggest planning your date for a sunny, comfortable day. Good luck!
River Bandits Game
There's nothing like hot dogs, beer, and good ole' baseball on a summer day. Even if you're not into sports, there's something fun about the atmosphere of the ballpark. You can chat about yourselves, but also have the game as a buffer/conversation starter. Bonus points if you take your date on the Ferris wheel ride at Modern Woodman. Extra bonus points if you kiss at the top.
Freight House Farmer's Market
Yes, it might seem a little unconventional, but a day date at the market has the potential to turn into an all day date if you play your cards right. If you feel like things are going well, pick up the ingredients for a picnic lunch while roaming the market. Plus the variety of vendors provides plenty of talking points and chances to get to know one another ("Ooh, I love radishes, too!").
Coffee and walk by the Mississippi
The QC has plenty of fantastic coffee shops, so why not pick up some java, then head down to a bike path for a stroll? Even if you don't feel the sparks flying, you'll get a good caffeine buzz, not to mention some exercise.
Channel Cat Hop
The Channel Cat water taxi is a fun and inexpensive way to take in scenic river views, while also exploring different parts of the QC. You and your date can take the Channel Cat to Moline for lunch, ride over to the East Village for ice cream at Lagomarcino's, then wrap things up at Isle of Capri with a little gambling, if you're feeling crazy.
Analog Arcade Bar
What's more fun than challenging your date to a rousing pinball match? Playing the game while having some tasty drinks. Analog is like a grown-up Chuck E. Cheese, with a much better beverage (and game) selection. Playing arcade games is a great way to relax and be silly together, which hopefully eases the first date jitters.
Take in a Show
Whether you're in the mood for an improv show, concert, or even burlesque, the QC has you covered. There's always something fun going on at Adler Theatre, Circa 21, The Establishment, iWireless and other great local venues. Plan ahead if advance tickets are required, but often times, the smaller places still have plenty of seats available. After the show, get drinks downtown to make a night of it.
