Have you ever snuck a kiss on this historic ride?

The first time I ever went to the Iowa State Fair back in 2016, my friends insisted that we take a ride on Ye Old Mill. I didn't really understand why at the time, because it was kind of boring, but now I'm glad that I did! At the time, I had no idea that I was riding on an attraction that was nearly 100-years-old.

According to a new article from the Des Moines Register, this year's Iowa State Fair is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Ye Old Mill. They even sculpted it in butter! If the name doesn't ring a bell, here's what the Register has to say about it:

"Situated next to the Midway on Grand Avenue, riders climb aboard a four-row boat and disappear into a 1,500-foot tunnel. Except for an occasional collage of historical photos, most of the 3-minute float trip is in pitch-black darkness — allowing bold riders to steal a kiss or two."

Ye Old Mill was originally built in 1920, but unfortunately, the only remaining feature of the original attraction is the red paddle wheel. The ride had to be rebuilt in 1996 due to serious damage. Even if you didn't get a chance to ride the original, the new ride was built to look exactly like the old one, so you can still enjoy the history of it. You won't get to pay the original price, though. A ride on Ye Old Mill is $3 in 2022.
