Annual Meteor Shower Peaks In The Quad Cities Tonight
If you are still out of power and need some entertainment for this evening, take a look at the Quad City night skies tonight for a meteor shower that will hit its peak.
If there was one silver lining in the clouds of the Derecho that knocked out power across the Quad Cities, it would be that you could see a meteor shower tonight very clear! According to Meteorologist Andy McCray from our weather news partner Local 4 News, tonight is the peak of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower.
Because there are still several neighborhoods that are still pitch-black because they have no electricity, Quad City residents will have a great chance to see this annual Meteor shower. The lack of light pollution will give way to great sights to see in the sky.
If you are wondering which direction to look towards to see this meteor shower, look towards the north/northeast for majority of the meteors.
The moon is in the Waning Crescent phase and will play a factor into how visible the meteor shower will be. The best time to see the annual Perseid Meteor Shower will most likely be after midnight. When the sky does become dark, take a look up and see if you can see the show!
See, there is a silver lining in this power outage. Maybe wish upon one of those "shooting stars" to turn the lights back on.
