My wife and I are looking at becoming first time homeowners and with that comes a lot of stuff you have to learn and know. Since we are brand new at this, I would love some advice from fellow homeowners in the Quad Cities!

My wife and I are looking to grow some roots here in the Quad Cities area. Her and I met in college at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. We have only ever rented apartments before, so obviously buying a home for the first time is an exciting, yet somewhat stressful situation.

We have told some of our friends and family (and with this article now, everyone) that we are looking to buy a home in the Quad Cities. When you tell people that, you get a lot of advice from people. While it's great that we have so many people who love us and want to help us out, it's really hard to retain all of this advice in our heads while going through the process of buying a house for the first time.

Our realtor is great and she has shown us a few homes that we really like. I'm not sure how close we are to making an offer, but before we pull the trigger, I want you to give you, the B100 listeners a chance to help my wife and I out.

Whether you just bought your first home, or 17th home, please, give me the best piece of advice you can give to someone who is buying a home for the first time.

The few things I will tell you to help with your piece of advice are:

  • We are looking to buy on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities
  • We don't necessarily care about the school district (yet)
  • We aren't millionaires so be reasonable if you are trying to pitch us a house to buy

Please tell me your best piece of advice for someone who is buying a home for the first time, and thank you in advance, Quad Cities!
