Busy Eastern Iowa Downtown One-Way Roads Set To Become Two-Ways Soon

Big changes might be coming to downtown Davenport soon.

The QC has a lot of one-way roads but we might be getting rid of a couple of them. Specifically 3rd Street & 4th Street in downtown Davenport. And it's set to start sooner than you probably think.

The first part of the conversion into a two-way road is 3rd Street from River Drive to Marquette. That's supposed to include road improvements from Harrison to Telegraph. Does that mean they'll make Harrison less of a pothole-filled Rice Krispie Treat to drive on?

Making 3rd into a two-way is set to start next month (July).

We won't have to deal with the second part (4th Street) until next summer, so one thing at a time here.

But we're not sure the 3rd Street project will even start on time. Some city council members aren't thrilled with the idea and on June 15th, there will be a work session to talk it out more. Over $7 million federal funds are going into the project and Mayor Matson hopes it doesn't get postponed.

We'll see if/when the conversion actually starts in July but who doesn't love some more road construction to deal with in the summer? Why not? We already have the roundabout going in at the base of the Arsenal bridge in downtown Davenport. Let's do all the things.

And no, if part one of this does start on time, there's no projected completion date. It could take an entire lifetime, who knows.
