Corn Is Randomly Growing In Iowa Town Hit By Deadly Tornado
Residents in the town of Greenfield, Iowa are still continuing to pick up the pieces after an EF4 tornado ripped through the center of town on May 21st, 2024.
After completing damage assessments across Adams and Adair Counties, including Greenfield, the National Weather Service of Des Moines and survey teams said the damage was consistent with EF4 tornado damage. Wind speeds peaked between 175-185 mph. EF4 damage was located within the community of Greenfield and across rural portions of southern Adair County.
The track of the EF4 tornado that tore through Greenfield was about 44 miles long and had a maximum width of 1,000 yards. The tornado injured 35 Iowans and killed 5.
It's been about a month and a half since that devastating tornado ripped through Iowa but something is happening in Greenfield which is really interesting.
Since corn in Iowa is typically planted between late April to late May, not all corn seeds may have started to germinate which means many fields just had little seeds in the dirt. Because of this devastating tornado hitting on May 21st, some of those seeds were pulled up by the tornado and ultimately landed along the easements and yards of Greenfield, Iowa.
A social media post shared by KWQC Meteorologist Kyle Kiel shows a bunch of random corn popping up across the town of Greenfield. I mean, it is July and you see how high those fields are getting.
The post from Wendi Rae includes several photos of corn randomly growing across the town. The photos include those cornstalks popping up with still plenty of damage shown throughout town.
While this is very interesting and 'neat' as Wendy calls it, our thoughts still go out to those picking up the pieces in Greenfield.
