She Can Dance: Davenport Dancer In Top 3 of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
A Davenport native is working it on the "So You Think You Can Dance" floor and it's gotten her to the top 3.
We've told you about Essence Wilmington and her progress on this season of 'SYTYCD'. In mid-June, she made the top 12 then made the top 6. After last night, she's found her way into the top 3 dancers on the show.
Essence is a 20-year-old rapper/dancer/choreographer/actor/model, according to her Facebook page. In the latest show on July 27th, she went up against fellow dancer Ralyn. tWitch Boss, one of the judges, said to Essence: "Essence, you have attacked style after style."
When voting was said and done on Wednesday, Essence, Alexis, and Keaton were the top 3 dancers who will move on in the competition. Ralyn, Beau, and Carter were the 3 dancers who were eliminated from the competition. In the competition, Essence has had to perform dances of multiple styles, including hip-hop and contemporary.
Essence began dancing when she was 9 at Imani Dance and Studio for Cultural Arts in Davenport. She has been a part of many dance conventions and was a "Bullskid" dancer for the Chicago Bulls basketball team in the 2013-2014 season. She still teaches dance classes every Wednesday at the Roosevelt Center to ages 6+.
The competition isn't over yet. We still have time to cheer on Essence in the two episodes of "So You Think You Can Dance" left for this season. The dancer left standing will win $100,000. You can watch 'SYTYCD' on Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. on Fox.
