You Won’t Have As Long to Set Off Fireworks in Davenport This Year
As you get ready for the 4th of July, you should know that if you live in Davenport, your timeframe to set off fireworks has officially shrunk.
The Davenport City Council voted this week (8-2 by the way) to shorten the timeframe that you can legally set off fireworks within the city on July 3rd and July 4th.
Your new window of time is 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. on both days. It used to be 2:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
This is only for consumer fireworks, so not the fancy professional fireworks shows. Which, by the way, we made a list of all of the firework shows in the QCA to help you find the closest ones to you.
Here's what Council Member Ben Jobgen told WQAD:
That loud noise becomes a nuisance to animals, to people with (post-traumatic stress disorder) and other health conditions. In my mind, being able to decrease that window of time just makes sense and can hopefully lessen the strain on some of those individuals.
Jobgen also acknowledged that shortening the window won't stop people from shooting off fireworks whenever they want but he has faith in Davenport residents to follow the law.
There is a fine if you set them off outside of the new hours. A first offense is a minimum of $250.
New this year too, you can buy fireworks at more places across Davenport. As we get closer to the 4th, you'll see more tents and vendors set up around town selling consumer fireworks. That will likely have really weird firework names.
