Davenport Has Activated Its Flood Plan For This Weekend
Oh, you thought the Mississippi River was done flooding for the year? No, not quite. In fact, there's so much rain in the forecast for this weekend that Davenport has activated its flood plan once again, according to KWQC.
Current forecasts have a flash flood warning in effect, and the river is expected to get up to 14.2 feet by Monday. That is technically shy of flood stage – officially, that's 15 feet – but the levels can always get higher.
What happens when the flood plan is activated? Pumps start being set, gates start closing in low-lying areas and most importantly, roads start closing. Unfortunately, that's also the more inconvenient part.
Per KWQC, Davenport officials plan to close South Concord Street between River Dr and Wapello sometime on Saturday, the 21st. Crews are monitoring conditions and are standing by to respond as needed.
Here's hoping it's not quite as bad as Spring was.
