Davenport Police Use Flashbang, SWAT Team In Executing Search Warrant
It got kind of dramatic this week in Davenport.
Listen, every city has it's rather less flattering moments. It's not just Davenport that finds itself in these kinds of situations.
According to WHBF, Tuesday night, Davenport police were executing a search warrant in the west end, at the 300 block of Taylor Street. Officers cleared the neighbors of the house out and about a dozen SWAT cars showed up along with several Davenport Police cars.
Police got to the scene in response to someone with a gun running into the house. They surrounded the house then worked on getting warrants.
As that was happening, police used a bullhorn to communicate with both bystanders and the suspect in the house. They told the suspect:
We have a search warrant …. we’ve been here for over an hour. You have had plenty of time to think about what you want to do. We are not going away.
Here's the video of the scene at the time:
Police used a flashbang (a non-lethal explosive device that's intended to distract) and after that, police shot rounds of tear gas inside.
Around 7:30 p.m., 6 officers went into the house. As of 8:30 p.m., police were still combing through the duplex. They thought that, if there was access between the two sides of the duplex, the suspect could just go through the wall and get out on the other side of it.
As of now, it's not known if the suspect was eventually caught or what has transpired since.
