Davenport’s Truck-Eating Bridge Just Had Another Snack
Davenport's infamous truck-eating low clearance bridge has earned its nickname yet again.
Every city has stuff it's known for and Davenport has the honor of being known for the truck-eating railroad bridge at 5th & Brady/Harrison. The flashing lights, the low clearance sign, none of it can curtail the trucks that the railroad bridge inevitably feasts on.
On Monday afternoon, an Enterprise truck ate it. Or the bridge ate it. Check out the pic from WHBF:
You thought you could clear the bridge, did you? Haha never. WHBF reports no one was hurt, except for the top of the truck.
This is hardly the first truck the bridge has munched on this year. Within the last year, there have been multiple other incidents where trucks have fell victim to the bridge's appetite. Here are a few of the ones that have happened since 2021.
This one in August:
This was the bridge's breakfast one August morning.
This one was last June.
This truck was carrying what appeared to be hot tubs when it apparently didn't notice clearance on the bridge is just 11 ft, 8 inches.
Last April we had this:
This gnarly one happened in November:
We told you about it and even though it's chaotic, luckily no one was injured in the incident.
We know it's not remotely surprising that the bridge just grazed on another truck. There was even a Facebook page (though it hasn't been updated in a while) created for Davenport's Truck-Eating Bridge. So a word of warning to all truck drivers: just don't even try to fit your truck under a bridge that's 11 ft, 8 inches clearance. It will eat it.
