Eastern Iowa Bar Is Getting “Grinchy” With New Holiday Pop-Up

As Christmas approaches many people are full of cheer. Presents, lights, and fun, maybe even a frosty cold beer. But at this Eastern Iowa bar, you'll find a holiday pop-up celebrating a Who that's monstrous. Take a step inside Kelso's Corner to see a green pop-up they call, Grinchmas.

It took me a while to channel my inner Dr. Suess in that first paragraph. But it was a quick turnaround for owner Kesley Seibert and her staff at Kelso's Corner (1117 Mound St.) in the Village of East Davenport to flip her bar into a holiday pop-up never seen before.

“I think drinking and the Grinch go hand in hand," Seibert said when I went and visited her and decorator Lexi Boulin at Kelso's Corner to take a look at the incredible work they've done to create Kelso's first annual Grinchmas pop-up.

“I just started collecting all of the decorations about 2 weeks ago," Seibert said about how quickly she's been getting the decorations to make this pop-up happen. "I’m a really big theme person and the Grinch is the cutest green guy we’ve ever seen.”

I mean, it's hard to disagree with an adorable baby Grinch face like that.

When asked about the inspiration behind doing a Grinchmas pop-up as opposed to a "typical" Christmas pop-up, Seibert said, “I feel like Christmas gets super cheesy and overwhelming with the normal stuff.  I feel like the Grinch has got this attitude, you know, so it’s still yes you can stress about the holidays or even hate them, but we can still have a really good time.”

And that's what Grinchmas will do no matter how you feel about the holidays.

Along with the Grinchmas pop-up, Kelso's Corner has a bunch of events this month, including celebrating its 2-year anniversary.
