
Eastern Iowa City Taking Applications For Citizens Academy Course
It never hurts to learn more about your city, its departments, the elected and hired officials, and how things work.
For the ninth time, an eastern Iowa city will be putting on a citizen academy. The class is a small one and not all applicants will get in. But this city is taking applications for residents to have a chance to take the class and learn more about the city they call home.
Apply For DavenportU Citizen Academy
Applications are now being accepted for DavenportU, the City of Davenport’s ten-session Citizens Academy, according to the City of Davenport. Each year up to 15
Davenport residents are selected for the ten-session program to learn about all areas
of the City government. The Spring 2025 cohort begins on March 31, 2025.
Davenport who has ever been curious about how the City prioritizes projects or how heavy a firefighter's turnout gear is, City officials say this is the academy for you.
“I look forward to meeting Davenport’s most engaged citizens in each year’s cohort,” said Davenport Mayor Mike Matson. “Even long-time residents of Davenport can learn something new at DavenportU.”
Each session of DavenportU takes citizens behind the scenes of the City government with interactive experiences, tours, and presentations. From community and economic development to public safety and parks, DavenportU participants move around the City to learn about the inner workings of each department.
DavenportU will conclude with a graduation ceremony at the City Council Meeting on May 28, 2025.
Applications for the Davenport 2025 Spring Cohort will be accepted through February 21, 2025. Those accepted into the program will be notified via email following the application deadline. Click here to apply.
