Residents in a major Eastern Iowa town have been feeling that way since Memorial Day weekend in 2023. If you recall, that's when the Davenport apartment building collapsed Davenport and ultimately killing three people. This is when the City of Davenport was beginning to have all eyes on every move.

The City of Davenport even issued Andrew Wold, the collapsed apartment building owner, a demolition order just one day after the building partially collapsed. The three men that died hadn't even been found yet. It feels fishy, doesn't it?

Davenport Blocks State Auditor After "Under The Table" Secret Payoffs

Since the collapse in Davenport, residents in the city have been feeling like something corrupt has been going on.

Davenport officials filed to block Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand from accessing records following what some would call "under the table" payoffs to former city employees.

Davenport Alderwoman's Conflict Of Interest

Third Ward Ald. Marion Meginnis, who runs a business helping developers get federal historic tax credits, felt there was no conflict of interest when voting on a developer's application to build a new hotel in Downtown Davenport. The developer, Pete Stopulos, is one of Meginnis' former clients, according to KWQC.

Meginnins claims that in the past, she has never voted on an issue before the city regarding historic tax credits for past clients. She says that she denies any wrongdoing in voting on this specific case she was consulted on this project.

Scott County Attorney Won't Charge Apartment Owner

To add to the sourness of the Davenport apartment collapse case, Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham announced this week that Andrew Wold, the landlord of 324 Main St., would not face criminal charges.

42-year-old Branden Colvin Sr.,  51-year-old Ryan Hitchcock, and 60-year-old Daniel Prien all lost their lives. Peach Berry was trapped in the collapse and had her leg amputated to be set free.

Civil lawsuits by Berry and the families of those killed in the apartment collapse against Wold have been filed.
