Temperatures may be warm now as we head into the weekend, but as we wrap up this upcoming weekend and kick off the week on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we're going to see a more than 40° difference in just 48 hours.
This Arctic Blast is not a joke and it's something you need to take seriously too. How cold will it get in Iowa? What are some tips and tricks to stay safe while tempertaures get down to below zero? We have the answers.
Arctic Blast To Bring Dangerous Temperatures
A massive Arctic Blast is about to bring the coldest temperatures of the year to Iowa, the Quad Ctiies, and a good portion of the U.S.
The NOAA and NWS Weather Prediction Center is showing just how cold wind chills will get in the northern half of the U.S. starting tonight and lasting until next Tuesday.
The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities is showing the same forecast with that Arctic Blast blowing in starting on Saturday. We'll see highs on Friday in the mid 40s and the mid 20s on Saturday. By the time Sunday rolls around, highs will be in the single digits and wind chills will be down to -15° by Sunday afternoon.
Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will bring the same thing as Sunday wit maybe some even colder wind chills getting down to -20° more consistently overnight.
Wind speeds on Sunday will get up to 25 mph and up to 20 mph on Monday.
If you have kids in school that have school on Monday, maybe plan on a late start or school being canceled altogether.
