Beginning on Friday, November 27, all Fareway grocery stores, bakeries and meat markets will be closing at 7 p.m. until further notice. In addition, customers considered "high risk" will also get the first hour of shopping reserved for them.

In a social media announcement on Monday, November 23, officials from Fareway announced that beginning this Friday, November 27, and until further notice, all Fareway stores, bakeries and meat markets will be closing at 7 p.m. Their new hours will be Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

All Fareway stores are closed on Sunday.

According to Fareway officials, the early closure will provide additional time for cleaning and sanitation along with restocking inventory. The decision to close earlier is to also give Fareway employees additional time off through the holiday season.

As a part of the new Fareway hours, the first hour of shopping, 8 – 9 a.m., will continue to be reserved for those customers who are considered "high risk" shoppers. Those considered "high risk" include people who are 65 and over, expecting mothers, those living with a serious chronic medical condition, and anyone with an underlying medical condition that increases the susceptibility to serious illness from COVID-19.

On Monday, Hy-Vee reinstated it's reserved hour for "high risk" shoppers. This reserved hour went into effect at all Hy-Vee locations from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., Monday through Friday, and is dedicated for the following Hy-Vee customers:

  • Ages 60 and older
  • Expectant mothers
  • Anyone with an underlying health condition(s) that makes him/her more susceptible to serious illness
