The construction started in the spring, and quickly, the new development featuring businesses and apartments started to take shape.  Now, there are people living there and businesses are open.

But, as you can see below there is plenty more room for hopefully unique growth on the northeast side of town.

Where is this enough room in the city for all these new buildings?

The big area is located on 53rd street between Utica Ridge and 18th Street.  As you can see from the above Google map, the satellite hasn't been by since the construction started.  But they have the inlet roads on the map.

The project's apartments were not wanted by all neighbors.

The homes that were next to the land have enjoyed no neighbors for years (the land has been used for farming since the early 30s) but now these homes have neighbors in the form of apartments.

But these are definitely not normal apartments.

You can definitely call these luxury apartments.  They range from $2100-$2500 per month.  Guess if you aren't ready for a house yet, you can prep yourself with a monthly type house payment.

Businesses are open and getting close to opening more.

While the apartments are up and have residents in them, the businesses along 53rd are just starting to get occupants.

So far the development has a physical therapy center.

And it will soon be getting a Starbucks  The sign is up, but it's not open yet.  FYI...there is already a coffee shop in Dunn Brothers literally across the street.  There is also a locally owned place called Coffee Apothocary just a couple blocks down on 53rd on the same side of the street.

The next one that appears to be coming will be a Jersey Mike's.

Right next to this building in the new development is a new car wash.  FYI...there is already a drive-thru car wash about 2 blocks down the road on 53rd at the Kwik Star.

53rd is now going to be a slower drive.

Anybody who dives on 53rd, pretty much anywhere in the city, knows it's a packed and slow-moving road.  Now it's going to get slower with a new stoplight.  And right now, it clearly doesn't have any sensors on it cause you can sit there waiting for it to change in the middle of the night.

There is plenty more room available for something new and unique.

Now that you've seen what is being offered so far in the new Birchwood South development, what else will we see in the future?  As you can see, there is plenty of room.

The hope is that whatever is built will be something different than what the area already has.  Because so far, it's just been more of the same for the northeast side of Davenport.
