I Rappelled 11 Stories For A QCA Charity And You Should Try It
For the second year in a row, I went "Over the Edge" for a great local nonprofit and it's something you should try next year too.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley is a great organization. They pair "littles" (kids to be mentored) with their "bigs" (adults to mentor them). It's very important for local kiddos to have role models and adult guidance, especially as we're going back to school, and BBBS has some of the most fun fundraisers ever.
Why You Should Go Over The Edge
Easy why: it's an actual blast. Rappelling 11 stories down Hotel Blackhawk isn't scary to me but even if it seems intimidating to you, it's so worth it to feel like Spiderman. It's actually a beautiful city view from the roof to look around and see downtown Davenport.
But most importantly, Over The Edge raises money to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley. This year, there were 100 "Edgers" (those of us who were gutsy enough to rappel) and this year, the event has raised $157,000 and counting, thanks to over 1,000 donations.
Over The Edge 2024 will be August 24, 2024. It's a hot minute away but definitely a date to save for the new year.
Other Ways To Help BBBS
If donating money to BBBS isn't in your wheelhouse right now, the organization does have a very real need for mentors, or "bigs". You can apply to be a "Big" and get the details on it on their website.
Between now and the next time we'll all go 'over the edge', BBBS has some events you can check out. Here's what else is on their 2024 calendar:
- Putt-a-Round: Feb. 7-9 (RiverCenter)
- Plant Sale: May 10-13 (Northwest Bank & Trust)
- Golf Outing: June 24 (Pinnacle Milan)
Going 'over the edge' is so much fun and it's for such a great cause. It's a year away but go ahead and plan to try it out in 2024.
