They knew what kind of park they were visiting, right? I mean they knew they were at a Native American gathering place, right?

I'm asking because a couple of idiots decided to graffiti Starved Rock State Park, which is a Native American gathering space.

Last Monday two visitors, a man, and woman both appearing to be in their 20s, scribbled messages on what is known as the Council Overhang. Which according to Park Superintendent Kerry Novak is a cavern-like formation on the east end of the park, The sandstone formation also just so happens to be an 8,000 years old Native American gathering place.

Novak was also quoted as saying:

It's disrespectful. If you bring your family, you want to see a beautiful natural area. You don't want to see that sort of thing."

Thankfully the geniuses responsible for the vandalism posted their handiwork to social media.

A witness came forward to the Starved Rock administration and reported seeing two people deface the wall at Council Overhang. The same witness said they overheard one of the two vandals say something about posting a photo to Instagram.

It's very difficult to "get this stuff cleaned up".

If you have information you can call the park at (815) 667-4726.
