Iowa Museum Closing Late On Thursdays In October For Adult Fun
The Putnam Museum and Science Center in Davenport will be extending their hours to 8 PM on Thursday nights, starting October 3, 2024, according to a release.
This enhancement coincides with a significant milestone: the 60th anniversary of the opening of their current building. To mark this occasion, guests are invited to attend on October 3rd for a day of celebration with special Throwback Pricing.
Admission will be 25¢ for adults and 10¢ for youth. This nostalgic pricing will be available through Saturday, October 5th. Guests will be encouraged to contribute to the museum's Community Access Fund. Donations will help continue to provide scholarships and discounts for underserved communities and guests facing financial restrictions, ensuring that everyone has access to a museum experience.
After October 3rd, Thursday nights will be part of “Discovery Happy Hour.” This discount runs every weekday after 3:30 and offers $5 off admission for non-members. Along with their free admission, members receive an additional 15% off in the museum store during Discovery Happy Hour.
Speaking of Happy Hour, every third Thursday the Putnam Museum will continue to host “History on Tap.” The program is being held at a new time, with drinks and socializing starting at 5 PM in the Grand Lobby.
At 5:30 PM, a guest speaker talks about a niche history subject on the Lardner Balcony. The History on Tap speaker for October 17th will be Jeff Adamson from Guys In Ties Improv presenting, “Twisted Tales of the Quad Cities: Creepy and Bizarre Stories of the QCs.”
Additionally, each Thursday at 7pm, there will be a feature-length film in the GIANT Screen Theater.
October starts with Addam’s Family, followed by Casper on the 10th, Young Frankenstein on the 17th, and Nightmare on Elm Street on the 24th. Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas will play on Halloween. Every month, there will be feature films chosen around a different theme.
The Putnam Museum and Science Center is open 7 days a week with a variety of documentaries that play throughout the day. Apart from Thursday nights, they are open from 10 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday and 12 to 5 pm on Sundays. Admission for adults is $12 and $10 for youth, military, seniors, and students. Sponsored through Museums for All, households with an EBT card and ID are eligible for $1 admission.
