The day has come. The 71st Cy-Hawk game will take place in Iowa City on Saturday and fans across the country are ready to watch Iowa and Iowa State battle it out.

Both teams are coming off week 1 wins. The Cyclones took care of business against North Dakota and the No. 21 Hawkeyes are coming off a huge blowout against Illinois State. While week 1 games are typically cakewalks for teams in the Big Ten and the Big 12 - especially when it's against FCS teams - week 2 will be an actual test for both teams.

Cade McNamara and the Iowa offense put on a show (finally) in the second half against Illinois State. McNamara threw for 251 yards, went 21/35, and threw for 3 touchdowns. Kaleb Johnson also had a great performance rushing for 2 touchdowns and 119 total yards.

Iowa State didn't blow out North Dakota in week 1 but got the job done. Led by quarterback Rocco Becht who threw for 2 touchdowns, the Cyclone offense held North Dakota to a field goal. Becht went 20/26 and threw for 267 yards. Becht was also the only Cyclone to score its sole rushing touchdown.

Cy-Hawk Series Record

Since 1894, the Hawkeyes and Cyclones have been playing the in-state rivalry game. This Saturday, Sept. 7th, 2024, will be the 71st meeting.

Iowa leads the series with 47 wins to Iowa State's 23. The Hawkeyes dominate the stats in this series. The largest victory in the series goes to Iowa when they beat the Cyclones 57–3 in 1985. The longest win streak belongs to Iowa when they won 15-straight from 1983–1997.

Iowa won the Cy-Hawk trophy in 2023 beating Iowa State 20-13.

The Hawks are looking to add to their win total in the series and with the expanded college football playoffs, this game in this historic rivalry adds a lot of importance to both teams.

Saturday's Cy-Hawk game will be the first game that Kirk Ferentz will coach in the 2024 season.

Ferentz and assistant Jon Budmayr were suspended for one game due to a recruiting violation that occurred when the Hawkeyes were recruiting current quarterback, Cade McNamara. Ferentz served that one-game suspension against Illinois State.
