Iowans Need To Do This Home Trick Before The First Frost Of The Season This Week
We've asked for fall and now we've got it.
If you haven't turned the heat on at home or in your car, this will probably be the first week of the season to do so. Our friends at KWQC are predicting a frost/freeze for tonight (Monday) and Tuesday night.
It's hard to believe it's already the frost time of the year but we had an idea of when it was coming. Months ago, Farmers' Almanac predicted that the Quad Cities would have our first frost October 17th, while Iowa City's was predicted to be October 13th and Cedar Rapids was supposed to be October 7th. So for the QC, it's off only a couple of days.
Before we know it it'll be time to freeze at this parade:
Easy Trick To Remember This Week
We're headed into the holidays, it's the time of year when we're spending a lot of money. That's why you need to remember one simple thing that could at least kinda help curtail your energy bills a bit.
Switch your ceiling fan's direction. Make it spin clockwise in the winter, pushing warm air down. Every fan is different but here's the gist:
- Find the switch that controls the fan direction (mine is on the side of my fan base)
- Flip the switch to the opposite side
- Turn the fan on and make sure it's spinning clockwise.
If your fan has a remote, the remote will probably have the button to switch the fan direction. This is an easy hack a lot of us know to do but this is your reminder that now is the time to do it, before we all totally freeze and the credit card bills from Christmas start showing up.
