If you drive much in Illinois, you'll need to be ready for a new addition to your car.

We all know the I-Pass transponders we've stuck to our windshields for the tolls to snap a pic of. However, those are going away and there will be a new thing in it's place.

Officials from Illinois Tollway told NBC Chicago that I-Pass transponders will be phased out and instead, I-Pass will use stickers.

Over the coming months, starting at the end of January, you'll be able to get I-Pass stickers to put on your car. They are RFID powered and you can find them at the oasis locations and the Tollway's headquarters.

One good thing with the stickers is that, unlike with the transponders, you don't have to pay a deposit fee and you will be able to link multiple stickers to the same I-Pass account. So you don't have to switch transponders between cars.

If you already have a transponder, don't worry, it's still valid until it's expiration date.

Illinois Tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse said in a statement:

The Illinois Tollway is continuing to adopt new tolling technology as it evolves, and I-PASS Sticker Tags mark the latest development in toll collection. Sticker tags are being adopted by toll agencies across the country and by the Illinois Tollway as they provide a convenient, reliable and less expensive travel experience for our customers.

Once you get your sticker, you can use it right away through tolls, but officials say you might have to wait 24 hours to use it on Chicago Skyway or other states that use the E-ZPass system.
