Cinco De Mayo lands this Friday. It's a celebration held on...yep, you guessed it, May 5th. According to Wikipedia, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.  In the U.S. the date has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture. Fair enough, but I don't need a reason to party and eat tacos, but don't threaten me with a good time.

Plenty of local Mexican-American establishments in the Quad Cities will have specials on delicious Mexican cuisine and beverages. Rudy's Cantina in the Village of East Davenport will have a giant party starting at noon with a bounce house for the kids, taco eating contest, and live music all day. I'll be there starting at 4. Also, Ganzos in Davenport is hosting their huge fiesta starting at 8:30 in the morning with the Sombreo Shuffel then the 5th annual Ganzos Cinco De Mayo 5k at 9am. Get signed up and get the details at Ganzos5k.com. There will also be other "fiestas" around the Quad Cities as well. How ever you spend your Cinco De Mayo, don't drink and drive. Por favor...more cervesas senior!
