John Deere Announces Over 140 Layoffs At Iowa Locations
John Deere wasn't getting through 2025 with no more layoffs.
Almost exactly just one month after a round of layoffs at their Illinois operations plants, John Deere is back at it, this time in Iowa.

Now with this round, according to a statement from Deere obtained by WHBF, the company has notified 141 employees at it's Iowa operations that they will be let go. This impacts Waterloo and Des Moines locations.
Specifically, the layoffs are at:
- Des Moines Works
- Waterloo Tractor Operations
- Waterloo Drive Train Operations
- Waterloo Drive Train West
- Waterloo Engine Works
The last day for the 40 employees impacted at the Des Moines branch will be October 31st. The 101 Waterloo workers will work their last shift at Deere on October 17th.
The statement from Deere said that the layoffs are in response to decreased demand and lower order volumes.
They said the employees that are laid off are eligible for recall for a period of time equal to how long they worked there. They will also get monetary and healthcare benefits, and things like tuition reimbursement and job placement help.
You don't have to live around here long before you learn layoffs are nothing new at Deere. Stats show that Deere has had over 1,000 layoffs since 2023, which doesn't include this year's numbers. In the case of last month's layoffs in East Moline, the affected employees were notified one day before Deere's 3rd-quarter earnings call.
