Season 21 of the reality dating show "The Bachelorette" starts in a month.

For a lot of us who enjoy trashy reality TV from time to time, it started with "Real Housewives" and either "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette". I've slipped in and out of actively paying attention to either of the latter two over the last 20 seasons.

But you can always bet a new season will be ~the most dramatic season yet~

The Bachelorette this season will be the show's first Asian-American woman, Jenn Tran (who was on season 28 of "The Bachelor"). One of the 25 men hoping to win her over is from right here in the Midwest.

Meet Hakeem

Hakeem is 29 and is a Medical Device Salesman. He's from Schaumberg, Illinois. His bio says:

Hakeem comes from a big Jamaican family and is proud to share his culture with Jenn. In the past, he has needed help in the love department and previously spent over $5,000 on a dating coach.

I don't even know if I'd spend $5,000 on a fairy godmother.

It's always entertaining to me to see the occupations of the contestants on these shows. So for Jenn's men, the other occupations of the lineup of men include Entrepreneur (including one that does pet portraits), several medical field jobs, contractor, teachers, and some investors and financial advisors.

It's fun to have someone from our region to cheer for in the show. We're pulling for Hakeem to win over Jenn. "The Bachelorette" starts it's new season on July 8th at 7:00 p.m. central.
