More Extremely Dangerous Cold And Snow Is Coming To Iowa
Cold and snow is typical January weather in Iowa and the Midwest, but when it all happens in a two-week timeframe, it's a lot. Tuesday's and Friday's winter storms are going to be comparably worse than what tomorrow will bring.
More snow and dangerously cold temperatures are once again heading our way as we head into the weekend. It won't be as much snow as we had last week but the cold and wind is the main focus
The snow has already begun to fall in Iowa and we'll be under a Winter Weather Advisory and a Wind Chill Warning for a little bit less than a day. Get ready, Old Man Winter is bringing his harsh conditions to the Quad Cities.
More Snow To Get Dumped On The Quad Cities
When you're eating dinner tonight, expect to see snow start to fall outside your window. The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities says we'll see up to 4 inches of snow in portions of the Quad Cities.
This fast moving storm system will bring widespread snow by late Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning. We'll see around 1-2 inches fall in the metro.
Officials say this will be a dry, fluffy snow that will blow around as winds will gust up to 35 mph. Blowing and drifting snow will make for hazardous travel conditions. After the snow ends the blowing and drifting will continue on Friday.
When Will The Snow Start & End?
Depending on where you are in the Quad Cities and surrounding area will determine when the snow will start to fall. Most of Eastern Iowa will see snow fall starting between 3-6 p.m. The Quad Cities metro will see snow starting to fall between 6-9 p.m.
Snow will continue to fall through the night until 3 a.m. on the eastern portion of the Quad Cities.
Dangerous Cold To Follow The Snow
The extremely cold temperatures have been the worst part of the weather lately. Yes, the snow is not a lot of fun to drive in, but when it's in the single digits or below zero, it's hard to step outside.
The Quad Cities will be in a Wind Chill Advisory from 3 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19. Wind chills will get down from -15° to -25°.
But the extremely cold temperatures aren't just happening on Friday. Expect those wind chill values to last up until noon on Sunday. We'll see wind chills get the coldest overnight Sunday into Sunday morning dipping down into the -25° to-35° range.
Officials say expect wind chill advisories and/or warnings for our area.
Stay warm out there, Quad Cities. Winter continues and it doesn't seem to be letting up for the weekend.
