Illinois Is In The Top 20 Most Gambling Addicted States
If you've been to a casino, you know that it's a hard place to leave. When you win once, you feel like you're going to keep winning or even hit the jackpot. Plus, the sounds, lights, booze, and atmosphere make it that much more fun and addicting.
Residents in some states spend a little too much time in the casinos or betting on sports games at home. Illinois is one of the top states that is addicted to gambling and Iowa isn't far behind.
WalletHub new study 2023's Most Gambling-Addicted States recently came out showing which states are the most and least addicted to gambling.
In order to determine where gambling addiction is most prevalent and harmful in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions:
- Gambling-Friendliness
- Gambling Problem & Treatment
WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 20 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest dependency on gambling.
After doing all of that math, WalletHub calculated each state's overall score and ranked them accordingly. They found that Illinois is in the top 20 most gambling-addicted states.
WalletHub found that Illinois is the 14th most gambling-addicted state. Ranked 16th in Gambling-Friendliness and 30th in Gambling Problem & Treatment. Illinois is also tied for the fewest Gambling-Related Arrests per Capita.
Iowa wasn't far behind its neighbor to the east. WalletHub found that Iowa is the 18th most gambling-addicted state. Iowa ranked 12th in Gambling-Friendliness and 48th in Gambling Problem & Treatment.
By no surprise, the most gambling-addicted state is Nevada. They can thank Las Vegas for that. Nevada's neighbor to the east, Utah, ranked as the least gambling-addicted state.
