If You Get A Bunch Of Spam Calls, You Probably Live In Illinois

There is nothing more annoying than getting a spam call in the 21st century. Spam calls still happen even though most of us have smartphones which somehow makes it even worse. With it being the political season, things will start to get even worse.

People in some states get way more spam calls than others. If you live in Illinois, you're not going to be happy to know you're one of the states that gets the most. Is it time for you to move yet?

More Than 4 Billion Robocalls Happen A Month

If you have a cellphone, chances are you stopped answering your phone altogether because of the amount of spam calls you get. Trust me, you're not alone. But spam calls come in many different forms like robocalls.

The FCC reports that more than 4 billion robocalls happen a month. If you don't know what a robocall is, it's just a pre-recorded message or artificial voice calling you on behalf of the spammers.

Apparently, robocalls have become so annoying, that people have stopped answering their phones altogether (guilty), according to Visible. That's not a good thing especially if someone is calling you from a different number because of an emergency.

People Hate Real People Spamming Them The Most

Those who actually reported spam calls to the FCC complained the most about other humans. Yeah, humans don't like other humans calling to spam them.

Another form of spam that's been irritating people is spam texts. Those texts increased by 25% from 2021 to 2022.

For those that get a lot of spam texts, here is some good news. Earlier this year In March, the FCC released its first ruling to fight against the rise of spam texts by targeting and eliminating illegal texts. They hope the ruling decreases the number of text-based scams and phishing schemes that try to get information or money from people unlawfully.

Illinois Gets the 2nd Most Spam Calls

If you live in Chicago, Moline, Rock Island, or any other city within the state lines of Illinois, you probably get spam calls a lot.

In partnership with Visible, Stacker analyzed the FCC's Consumer Complaints data and ranked each state based on the least to the most spam calls received in 2023 so far.

The study found that Illinois gets the second most spam calls in the U.S. In Illinois, there are roughly 20 spam calls reported for every 100,000 residents. In 2023, Illinois residents have reported 2,512 total spam calls, so far.

Iowa Doesn't Get That Many Spam Calls

Across the Mississippi River in Iowa, residents there don't receive nearly the same amount of spam calls. Iowa is right in the middle as the state with the 25th most spam calls.

There are about 11 spam calls reported for every 100,000 residents in Iowa.  Iowa residents have reported only 359 spam calls in 2023 with 75 of those being a live voice, 167 calls being pre-recorded, and 44 being text messages.
