My Picks for the BEST Christmas Songs Heard in the Quad Cities
Earlier this week we ranked 10 WORST holiday songs in the Quad Cities. On a more positive note, I've put together a list of my top six holiday tunes. I think these are some of the BEST holiday songs I never get tired of hearing.
It doesn't seem like Christmas until we watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. The Vince Guaraldi 'A Charlie Brown Christmas album is always playing at my house during the holidays. This whole album was probably my first introduction to jazz.
6. A Charlie Brown Christmas-'Christmas Time is Here'- Vince Guaraldi Trio
Who doesn't love some good old-fashioned country music with one of the best country artists ever, Willie Nelson. I heard this for the first time about 20 years ago and now it's a staple. It's a bit melancholy, but it's a sweet, sentimental favorite.
5. Pretty Paper-Willie Nelson
This is a beautiful song that's about anti-commercialism that became a commercial hit. Here is the EP version. The studio version and Greg Lake's solo version are all good too
4. I Believe in Father Christmas - Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
3. Vince Vance and the Valiants
I was looking for a holiday song to sing for a fundraising event for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois one year and came across this tune. The singer never gets enough credit. That powerhouse voice is Lisa Layne.
I'm an old-school rocker girl at heart, so when I heard this Foghat Christmas tune for the first time, I cranked it. It's fun, upbeat, and hasn't been drilled to hell and back. It should be noted this is NOT that awful Mariah Carey version.
2. All I Want For Christmas Is You-Foghat
My brother programs a radio station outside of the Quad City market. One day this song popped up while I was listening to his station. It reminds me of 60s beach music. It's sweet and even a bit sexy.
1. The Christmas Song-Raveonettes
