The big game is this Sunday and even though I am a Packers fan, I'm obviously still going to watch the game. But I want to know, who Illinois and Iowa is rooting for.

It's difficult to select which team to route for if 1, you don't even like football, 2, if you don't like either team, and 3, you're mad like I am your team isn't even playing. Regardless, we all slightly route for a team for many reasons, even if you don't care to. One of your family members is huge fan of the 49ers or Chiefs, you think Jimmy Garoppolo is beautiful human, a player(s) on one of these plays for your alma mater, or for your favorite college team. I want to know which state between Iowa and Illinois, is routing for what team in Super Bowl LIV.

If you are going based off of players from your alma mater or from your favorite college team, let me give you the players that played college in Iowa and Illinois.

Kansas City Chiefs:

  • Nick Allegretti - Gaurd - Illinois
  • Anthony Hitchens - LB - Iowa
  • Ben Niemann - LB - Iowa
  • Xavier Williams - DT - Northern Iowa
  • Khalen Saunders - DT - Western Illinois

San Francisco 49ers:

  • Jimmy Garoppolo - QB - Eastern Illinois
  • C.J. Beathard - QB - Iowa
  • George Kittle - TE - Iowa
  • Jimmie Ward - DB - Northern Illinois

I went to UNI so since Xavier Williams plays for the Chiefs, I have a tendency to learn that way but I'm also a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan. After the season George Kittle has had, it's really hard to not cheer for the 49ers.

If that didn't help you, here are few other facts that could help persuade you to select a team to cheer on this Sunday.

  • Lots of people around the league are cheering for the Chiefs because of Andy Reid is one of the most liked coaches in the NFL.
  • If the 49ers win, they will tie the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl win in NFL history, bringing their total to 6.
  • This is NFL's 100th season and 54 years ago, the league's first Super Bowl featured the Chiefs, who lost to the Green Bay Packers back in 1967. (GO PACK GO) Can the Chiefs take Super Bowl LIV?
  • 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan will be making his Super Bowl debut. This is the first father-son duo to make separate Super Bowl appearances in NFL history
  • The Chiefs are the  favorites to win as a 1-point favorite.
  • If the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV, they will end the second-longest drought between Super Bowl wins. The Chiefs last won Super Bowl IV against the Vikings.
  • 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has two Super Bowl rings as a Patriot backing up Tom Brady. This will be his first trophy as a starter.
