It's the rematch we were all looking forward to and hoping didn't happen at the same time. The Iowa Hawkeyes Women's Basketball team has reached the Elite 8 for the second year in a row. So is the LSU Tigers Women's Basketball team as they try to be back-to-back national champions.

The last time these two teams faced off was in the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship game. We all know the outcome of last year's national championship game.

Hawkeye fans haven't forgotten. As a matter of fact, it's been fuel for us to pack arenas and stadiums all season long to get our Hawkeyes back to the championship game.

For a chance to get there, Iowa has to take on a familiar foe looking to get back there, too. LSU and Iowa are coming off of two big Sweet 16 wins and both have a lot of momentum going into this game.

The No. 1 Hawkeyes are coming off a big win against No. 5 seed Colorado, winning 89-68. Caitlin Clark finished the game with 29 points. Actually, all of Iowa's starters finished with points in the double digits. Both Caitlin and Hannah Stuelke finished the game with a double-double.

The No. 3 Tigers defeated the No. 2 UCLA Bruins 78-69 on Saturday. Angel Reese finished the game with 16 points and Flau'jae Johnson went off scoring 24 points.

Needless to say, both teams are red hot and it's going to be a showdown in Albany tonight.

The only unfortunate part is that the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee put these two teams in the same region. It would've been nice to have this game be a Final Four or national championship game. The Elite 8 will have to do.
