The FDA Has Issued A Massive Recall Of This Birth Control
If you or a lady in your life is on birth control, you might want to check what type it is.
The FDA has officially recalled four lots of Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets, USP due to a packaging error. Evidently, some packages may have "defective blisters with incorrect tablet arrangements and/or an empty blister pocket."
Here's their concern, according to the FDA statement:
Risk Statement : As a result of this packaging error, where a patient does not take a tablet due to a missing tablet or that a patient takes a placebo instead of an active tablet, loss of efficacy is possible due to variation in the dosage consumed. To date, no case has been reported for pregnancy and adverse event to Apotex.
Loosely translated, it means that the birth control may not regulate hormones as needed, which can wreak havoc on a woman's body, or it may not prevent pregnancy. The expiration date on the recalled lots is August of 2020.
