Two Major Road Closures Begin In Eastern Iowa This Week
With warmer weather comes road work and road closures. Crews will be closing off two roads this week in Eastern Iowa which will make traveling to places difficult, especially for those who travel on these roads frequently.
Not as many of us travel on Wisconsin Ave. on the northwest side of Davenport, but many of us do travel on Locust St. Both roads will be closed this week with detours ready to go to help motorists.
The work being done on Wisconsin Ave. will take until the middle of summer to complete while the work on Locust St. should only last about a week.
Wisconsin Avenue Bridge Being Redone
The Iowa Department of Transportation announced that it is closing the Wisconsin Ave. bridge over I-80 starting today, Monday, March 4th.
Crews will close Wisconsin Avenue over I-80 from Monday, March 4 until mid-summer 2024, weather permitting, so repairs can be made to the bridge. While the bridge is closed you will follow a marked detour using Kimberly Road, Maysville Road, and West 90th Street.
Locust Street Closing For A Week
In the heart of Davenport, Locust Street will also have a portion of it closed starting this week.
Locust St will be closed between Gaines and Warren beginning Tuesday, March 5 for sewer repairs. Work is estimated to be complete by March 11.
Other Road Closures Coming To Davenport
Officials with the Davenport Public Works Department want you to be aware of a few other road closures to expect over the next few months that will impact travel:
- Update on the bridge over Duck Creek at Brady St. The trail has reopened; however, the traveling public will see single lane reductions through early May as finish work on the bridge approach, adjacent sidewalk, curb and gutter work, and trail tie-ins are completed.
- The DOT will also close the bridge over I-80 at Utica Ridge Rd beginning sometime in April. Watch for updates when a date is finalized.
- Expect periodic lane reductions throughout the 2024 construction season as water, energy, and fiber utility preparations occur in preparation for bridge rehabilitation on Harrison St over Duck Creek in 2025.
