Ugh. Why do bad things happen to good people?

Although I've been telling my wife since 2021 that they are probably going to start redoing Locust Street in front of the fairgrounds the following year, 2024 has officially become the actual year it's happening. As much as you think you mentally prepared for it happen, now that it has begun I'm already hating my commute.

The West-end's true colors and driving capabilities have already been show on the first day of the road work on W Locust St. in Davenport between Clark and Lincoln. If you don't have to drive on that stretch of road for the next few months, don't because it isn't pretty.

Road Work Begins On Locust Street In Davenport

I honestly didn't think this was happening because I feel like it was delayed for like a week but it's happening. W Locust Street between Clark and Lincoln is getting a well-deserved resurfacing. But at the cost of sanity, or what's left.

Davenport officials reminded us on social media that starting today, August 19th, the road work is beginning. There will be delays and officials say that if you aren't like me and can use an alternate route or avoid it altogether, please do that.

Plus, with school starting at West High School and Wilson Elementary on Friday, it's going to be even worse with high schoolers and crazy parents getting their precious little angels to school. Just drive anywhere else until this is over.

The project will require transient lane reductions and eventually reduce to one lane of travel each way as things progress.

The important thing to note from officials is that they are trying to avoid traffic backups and improve safety in the work zone. To do so, left turns at non-signalized intersections or driveways will not be permitted during the project.

You should have seen the wonderful person going 55mph past me with a handicap sticker who couldn't wait to turn into McDonald's this morning and hold us all up although she could've pulled up further or skipped McDonald's this morning. I love the bacon, egg, and cheese bagels with extra breakfast sauce like everyone else, but let's eat at home until this is over. Also, I know bingo is important but literally come from the west to go to bingo at the fairgrounds. You will get honked at and a thumbs down from yours truly if I see you making those illegal turns.

The W Locust St. project is estimated to be complete mid-to-late November, pending weather and subsurface conditions. If we could get it done sooner, that would be awesome.

A Davenport Road Closure To Make You Even More Mad

Oh, in case you didn't see, the fun little s-curve that takes you from 4th to Telegraph Road is closed. This closure was expected because crews need to make emergency sewer repairs.

If you live on the west-end, driving is going to be terrible for the foreseeable future.
