While shopping at Walmart stores, customers in Iowa have been shocked because saving money isn't so easy. With almost 90 stores in Wisconsin, many people chose Walmart as their place to get groceries, clothes, electronics, and other items.

For customers who use coupons when shopping at Walmart, Coupons In The News reports that's going to be more difficult. The coupon policy has been untouched for many years but Walmart has changed its coupon policy for the first time in six years and it's definitely noticeable.

Walmart's Coupon Crackdown Is Happening

Back in September 2023, Walmart updated its coupon policy for the first time in over six years. The change went well unnoticed among shoppers but those who are professional coupon users sure have noticed the changes. Coupons In The News broke down the new policy changes.

There essentially are three major changes to Walmart's new coupon policy that could have a major impact on your saving money during the holidays and throughout the rest of the year.

1. Only 4 Coupons Per Household

Walmart is now limiting customers to four identical coupons per household per day. Officially, this is what Walmart's updated policy says,

"Limit of 4 identical coupons per household, per day (unless otherwise noted on coupon). There is no limit on the number of coupons (variety) that can be used in a total transaction."

3. Stop Asking For An Override

What does that mean? That means if you think you have a coupon and it doesn't scan, the person running the cash register or in charge of self-checkout is no longer going to override the system and give you the deal.

The new policy states, "Coupons must scan at the register, as the GS1 on the coupon must validate to Walmart’s master file." Sorry, your fake coupon won't cut it.

3. Eliminating Overages

This was a big perk for those who took advantage of overages when before the policy change. Walmart was one of the few stores still giving money back for overages.

The new policy states, "Walmart does not give cash back nor will any overages apply to the remaining items in the transaction if the value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item, including WIC and SNAP."
