What are your initial thoughts when you see red and blue lights in your rearview mirror? I know my thought process is...

  1. "That isn't good..."
  2. "S**t!"
  3. *thinks of ways to get out of imminent ticket*
  4. Sobs profusely to officer

Those days are loooong gone, for teenagers following the rules at least.

WQAD reports that the Iowa State Patrol is actively watching for teen drivers that are practicing safe-driving laws (i.e. seatbelt usage) so that they can pull them over to give them a reward, rather than a ticket.

State Troopers, like Dan Loussaert, are seeking out teenagers that buckle up when on the open road to reward them for following the law. The reward? Pizza and soda from Casey's. They sure do know the way to my student's hearts!

According to Iowa Seat Belt Law, every passenger in the front of the vehicle must be buckled up and anyone in the car under the age of 18 is automatically required to use a seat belt as well. If drivers fail to adhere to the law, a first-time offense could cost you up to $127.50 in fines.
