Fire departments across the QCA will compete in a chili cook-off in September.

It's getting closer to feeling like fall outside (thank god) which means chili is a more and more viable dinner option.

Whether you like chili hot and spicy or just warm and flavorful, you'll have a chance to judge the best firehouse chili in the QCA.

So the question then remains: which fire department makes the best firehouse chili? The answer to that will depend on you.

The 2nd Annual Quad Cities Firefighter Chili Cook Off will be happening on September 23rd from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Isle of Capri Covered Parking Lot in Bettendorf.

Both career firefighters and volunteer firefighters will be making different chilis to see which QCA firehouse can take this year's chili crown. Besides your vote, there will be a panel of celebrity judges, along with live music from the QC Rock Academy, and a special beer from Adventurous Brewing in Bettendorf.

It's $10 to sample each chili and vote for your favorite. All proceeds from the event are going to the Bettendorf Firefighters Benevolent Fund, which "provides financial, physical, and emotional assistance to firefighters and fellow first responders and their families in times of need".

It hasn't been listed what fire departments and volunteer fire departments will be competing yet but a day full of trying different chilis in September sounds like a good fall day to me. You can get more details on the chili cook-off on the city of Bettendorf's website.
