There has been a lot of talk since earlier this week about the potential for severe storms this weekend in Eastern Iowa and throughout portions of the Midwest. Well, we've reached the weekend and we do know it's going to be a wet one.

Severe storms are definitely a risk this weekend but timing is still up in the air for these storms during most of the weekend. Regardless, make sure you and your family have your severe weather plan ready in case things take a turn for the worse.

Wet Weather Weekend For Eastern Iowa

It might feel like all it does this weekend is rain. Unfortunately, that's essentially what the forecast is calling for. The wet weather begins Friday morning as non-severe showers roll through the area, according to KWQC.

There is a low risk for a few severe storms during the late afternoon and evening but another round of storms tonight could be strong to severe if they hold together. We'll see highs barely get to 60° on Friday due to the rain and clouds. If storms do pop up, they will be more off to the west according to the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities.

Saturday is going to warm up big time with highs getting close, if not reaching, 80°. It will be a little breezy Saturday with a possible round of strong storms late Saturday night. Those storms could be severe with all of the fixings.

Timing of these severe storms for this weekend are still up for debate. The NWS and TV6 have slightly different estimates on when we'll see the severest of storms. The NWS predicts Saturday night while the First Alert Weather Team is thinking Sunday has the strongest potential.

No matter what, we're going to get a lot of rain this weekend.

We have a decent chance to get 2 or more inches of rain between Friday and Sunday. Some areas could see up to 4 inches of rain. This does enhance our flood risks for streams, creeks, and rivers leading to the Mississippi River.

Make sure your home is prepared and water is being drained away from your home. Also, make sure you and your family are weather ready. Have a plan in place ahead of these potentially severe storms and heavy rain.
