U.S. Department Of State Issues ‘Worldwide’ Caution Alert For Illinoisans & Iowans
The world has been a bit volatile, in case you missed it.
If you've noticed within the last week especially, planes have been avoiding Middle East air space almost totally, whether it's actively closed in some areas or just too darn risky to fly over it.
Check out the latest map from Safe Airspace/OPS Group that shows air travel lately. Notice the main country that inbound and outbound flights are avoiding?
One day after the U.S. attacked Iran, the U.S. Department of State issued a 'Worldwide Caution Security Alert' that basically warns all Americans traveling abroad to be careful, no matter where you're going.
The text of the alert includes: "There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad."
The conflict has resulted in periodic closures of Middle Eastern airspace and a Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory has been issued for Americans in Lebanon. The text of why that is includes "crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, unexploded landmines, and the risk of armed conflict".
You may not be going to a Middle Eastern country this summer but you might still feel the impacts.
The Middle East's airspace being closed is impacting flights from all over. According to PEOPLE, on Monday, 2 flights from Australia to Europe were forced to turn around after Qatar's airspace closed after a retaliatory attack from Iran on a U.S. military base in the country.
Wherever you're going this summer, you can see what Travel Advisory level your destination country is at on U.S. Department of State's website.
