Students from Williams Intermediate in Davenport were rushed to the hospital Friday, April 1, 2016 after the contents from a can of pepper spray were released in the cafeteria.

According to WQAD, Dawn Saul, the communication director for the school, said that 26 students were transported from the school to a nearby hospital via ambulance after complaining about respiratory issues following the incident.

Now, parents are trying to pinpoint who's responsible for paying those medical bills.

WQAD reported Monday that Saul said the affected students and parents can file the insurance claims through their private provider or through individual insurance that would've been purchased for students at the beginning of the school year.

The school is also exploring any additional options that may be available for those affected through their district's insurance provider.

Parents with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out to Williams Intermediate Principal Garet Egel or Associate Principal Cory VanDeWalle.
