Are QC Dunkin’ Donuts Dumping The Donuts?

Could it be Quad City area Dunkin' Donuts are eliminating donuts? Not so fast. It's true the company is set to drop the word, "Donuts" at one of its locations as an experiment next week.

A new Dunkin’ Donuts store opening in the Boston, Massachusetts, suburb of Quincy is giving the one-name idea a try. Officials say the “next generation” store scheduled to be unveiled Tuesday will be the first in the nation to be billed simply as “Dunkin.”

The chain’s signature doughnuts aren’t going anywhere, however. The restaurant will still serve the fried treats that have been a mainstay for the company since its founding in Quincy in 1950.

According to a USA Today article, the shortened name is part of a broader re-branding at several of the Canton, Mass.-headquartered company’s stores. No word when the name changes may come to the Quad Cities.

Dunkin' Donuts has referred to itself as simply Dunkin’ in advertisements for years. Reports indicate the franchise will also pilot other new concepts, including multiple, high-tech drive-thru lanes.

Whew, that news had me scratching my head for a minute. What would Taco Bell be without the tacos? I guess Fred the Baker, the popular character who said, "it's time to make the doughnuts" in the 1980's and 90's will be officially retired.
