Chicago O’Hare-Bound Flight Diverted, Chants On Intercom Confuse Everyone
Does everyone forget how to function at airports?
There's a good chance that you'll see something out of the ordinary at any airport you're going to this summer. At Chicago O'Hare alone, one of the country's busiest airports, here's some stuff that's gone down within the last year:
And those are only the ones we know about at O'Hare.
Now, a flight from JFK to O'Hare had to be diverted because of a "disruptive customer" and yeah, you could say that.
It was American Airlines 2819, a routine flight Sunday morning from New York City to Chicago. It would've been routine were it not for someone that another passenger says forgot to take his meds. Here's how this unfolded:
Passengers on the flight say the issues started about an hour before they were supposed to land. At one point, the crew asked if there were any medical professionals on board.
Then the passenger started screaming things like "I'm going to blow up the plane, I know planes...and I'm going to kill you all", according to another passenger, Margaret Weinstock. She says he was ready to attack the flight attendants.
Now, we all know you can't just say stuff like that on a plane.
The flight was diverted to Detroit and the FBI got involved, which is where it got even more confusing. Another passenger, Huxley Werner, described another weird part of it:
They were all chanting on the intercom to put our heads down and hands up. And nobody knew what was really going on at that point.
Passenger Esther Sutofski said:
There was a guy who came on the plane with a machine gun, and we're being told put your head down and your hands up, and I'm thinking oh great we're being hijacked now.
Spring Break season, according to O'Hare, is "historically one of the busiest times of the year".
