Pope Leo Gets White Sox Jersey From Chicago Nun Brewers Fan
Of course the first American pope is a baseball fan.
We can agree by now that Pope Leo is leaving an unprecedented mark upon his hometown, Chicago. Has that included making the Catholic sect in Chicago baseball fans?
As soon as he was elected in 2025, there was the search for who his favorite Chicago baseball team is, and his brother clarified that it's definitely the White Sox. This year, the White Sox are even having a pope hat night. He even got his own mural inside the stadium.
A Chicagoland area had a pretty memorable project. According to NBC Chicago, the White Sox reached out to Chi City Stitch, which is in suburban Oak Forest, about a local nun they knew that was going to the Vatican to meet the pope.
The nun wanted a local gift to take to Pope Leo.
But loyalty is loyalty. The nun, who is a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, wanted a custom Brewers jersey she could wear to the meeting.
The shop posted a picture of Pope Leo with his new swag:
But: the nun, Sister Deb, was not allowed to wear her Milwaukee Brewers jersey into the Vatican.
But: she was allowed to bring in the White Sox jersey for Pope Leo.
Meanwhile, the owner of the shop said it's beyond their "wildest dreams" that this happened. The shop posted the picture of Pope Leo holding the locally stitched jersey, calling it "truly surreal".
