Colona's Fourth of July fireworks show is on for June 30! A week ago our news partner Local 4 News reported that the city couldn't afford to put on the event. One week later after help from community members the fireworks show is a go at dusk on Saturday evening June 30.

According to Ourquadcities.com the community started coming together when Alderman Rich Holman donated his city council salary, $2,1000, towards the show. Community members then ponied up $3,000 through a GoFundMe campaign. Then a local company that has a heliport in town said they'd match that.

I suspect the fireworks in Colona will be just a little bit brighter, louder and a whole lot sweeter this Fourth of July. Things just are when everyone comes together to make it happen.
