It's a story as old as time:

  1. Parents giving their kids some slack
  2. Kids messing it up
  3. Parents scold and punish kids
  4. Kids learn lesson (hopefully)
  5. Repeat

Or, at least that's how it's supposed to work. One dad in particular had a hiccup with this seemingly flawless parenting model.

In 2013, the now 36-year-old father confiscated his 12-year-old daughter's cellphone  due to "inappropriate text messages," according to WFAA 8.

Normal, right? Wrong. The father, Ronald Jackson, was arrested and jailed with a $1,500 bail. WHAT?!

The mother, Michelle Steppe, was the one responsible for getting authorities involved after Jackson confiscated the phone because the phone was purchased by her and not the father - therefor being the rightful owner of the phone.

Jackson was found not guilty of property theft this past Tuesday by a Dallas County Criminal Court. Had he been convicted, he would have faced up to six months in jail alongside a $2,000 fine. The judge also allowed Jackson to maintain possession of the confiscated phone.

Sidenote: Mother, Michelle Steppe, is dating an officer from the same police department responsible for Jackson's arrest. First, Making A Murderer and now THIS?! When will the corruption end?! Here's looking at you, Netflix...
