Traffic Alert: River Level Closes Davenport Road
If you're going anywhere in Davenport this weekend, you may need to rearrange your route. The Mississippi River has risen over the last 24 hours because of heavy rain in the QCA and it's prompted a road closure in Davenport.
- Closure: South Concord St. between River Dr & Wapello Ave.
- When: tonight through April 26
The river's current level (as of 1:00 p.m. on Friday) is at 12.65 ft. The flood stage is 15 ft. You may have gotten the Davenport alert text this morning that the river is expected to hit 14.2 ft by Monday morning, which is considered above flood action stage.
So if you're planning to head out this weekend, you might need to plan your route with that closure in mind, as it could take you longer to get somewhere. The Davenport Compost Facility will stay open. If you need to drop by there, you can access it from Rockingham Rd to Wapello and Railroad Ave.
The rain doesn't look like it's wrapped up yet though. For the weekend, Saturday looks nice and sunny but Davenport has a chance of rain and maybe a thunderstorm on Saturday night and also a chance of showers on Sunday. Luckily, the river level is expected to quickly fall after it reaches 14.3 ft. on Monday.
Of course, if the water looks high somewhere around the river, or anywhere really, don't try to drive through it. Not a good idea. You can keep up with the Mississippi River level at Rock Island at this link from weather.gov.
