One of the things I was briefed on before moving to the Quad Cities was that every year it floods. Whether its because of heavy rainfall or the snow up North melting - the QC always experiences its fair share of overflow from the river.

I don't know what it was but last year there was hardly any mention of flooding, which was my first year I could experience it in the QC. I just remember trying to come up with a game plan for the stuff in my storage locker that was squeeze into a downtown Davenport basement.

Needless to say I was pleased at last year's lack of flooding - as I'm sure businesses in Davenport were as well.

This year? We won't be so lucky. According to the Quad City Times citing the National Weather Service, the Mississippi is supposed to "crest" on Tuesday morning.

The Times' article quotes Davenport Police Sgt. Michael Murphy saying, "the walkways are flooded between the boat and the (Modern Woodmen) baseball field," as well as spotty flooding on all of Concord Street.

Meteorologist Tim Gross from the Davenport division of the National Weather Service measured the Mississippi at 15.5 ft., half a foot past the flood stage.

The flooding will end up affecting homes and businesses alike in the coming days/weeks.
