Five Dollars Starts the Dream of Owning a Home in the Quad Cities

The path to home ownership in the Quad Cities can begin with only $5.

It's true. I know when I first saw it on QCOnline.com myself, I had to do a double-take.

The City of Rock Island launched a new program called H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership Made Easy) where you can buy a residential lot for only $5. This isn't just for first-time home buyers, either. Anyone can purchase the land but there are a few stipulations, like securing financing and having a home built in six months.

"The city is providing a fast-track approval process where all building permit fees are waived and the real estate transaction costs are covered by the city, according to the mayor."

The City of Rock Island has nearly 100 vacant lots for purchase, so whether you want to invest in real estate or own the home of your dreams, this certainly looks like a great time to do it.
