Heavy Rain Closes Eastern Iowa Dog Park, Floods Western Illinois Roads
What a fun Friday morning.
In eastern Iowa and western Illinois, it rained cats and dogs on Friday morning. January decided to end with buckets of rain and we got drenched. Luckily, it looks like it's mostly done but not before leaving some issues along the way.
According to our friends at KWQC, we shouldn't get rain over the weekend. Which is great since neither of these situations need it.
Crow Creek Dog Park Closed
The City of Bettendorf announced on Friday afternoon that the Crow Creek Dog Park is closed until further notice due to "heavy rain and dormant grass conditions". Watch their website/Facebook page for updates.
Both River Drives Got Dicey
The rain got so heavy that it closed all lanes of River Drive in Davenport Friday morning. Parts of Moline's River Drive were closed as well.
Obviously you shouldn't try to drive in that kind of water if you come across it. If you've driven on the outside lane anywhere today, there's a good chance you've splashed the car in some deep puddles. The good news is that flash flooding waters don't often take too long to recede, often just a few hours.
Before you think about taking either River Drives, you should check to make sure they're open. You can do that on Iowa DOT's closure map.
We're still not at river flood season so hopefully this is the only flooding-related closure the River Drives will have this year. We can only hope, right?
